Poems
‘Twas the night before Christmas, and all through the forum,
Not a poet was showing improper decorum.
They’d each hung their jingles on the Poet-Tree with care,
In hopes that their Moderator would soon be there.
They posted, then snuggled deep down in their beds,
While visions of rep comments danced in their heads.
And I in my PJ’s, with laptop in lap,
Had just settled down for my Christmas Eve nap,
When out from the Net there arose such a clatter,
I logged on to see just what was the matter;
Into the forum I flew like a flash,
Expecting to see all now lost but the cache.
The glow from the screen of my laptop so fine
Gave the luster of green lights from peeps now online,
When what to my wondering eye should appear—
A bard-in-a-hat from the wrong hemisphere!
He was clutching a gift of some squid for the Squad,
And I knew in a moment, it must be our Mod.
More rapid than eagles his poets all came,
As he posted and PM’d and called them by name:
“Now Limey, now Haytham, now Haskins and Annie!
On Louis, on Neuro, on Sebby and Jenny!
To the top of “New Posts,” lest these threads start to fall!
Now write away! write away! write away all!”
As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly
When they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky,
So up to the forum, the poets they flew,
With their heads full of iambs; pentameter, too.
And then in a twinkling, there appeared in no time
The prosodic inscribing of each poet’s rhyme.
As I stretched out my hand, and was starting to post,
Again came that modly bard, fresh from the coast.
He was dressed in his boardies, all wet head to toe,
And clutched in his hand was a soggy rondeau;
A bundle of rep points was flung on his back,
Along with some crits and a well-timed wisecrack.
His eyes how they twinkled, his dimples how merry!
His cheeks were all suntanned, though lately quite hairy;
The smile on his face was as sly as a cat,
And perched on his head was that infamous hat.
He took down the jingles from our Poet-Tree,
And then began reading one written by me;
A wink of his eye and a twist of his head,
Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread.
He opened his sack and dispensed his rp’s
For all of our efforts with the greatest of ease.
His praise was prolific, his crits were astute—
Though his own greater talent no one would dispute.
Then laying a finger aside of his hat,
His green light went red as my neighbor’s Fiat.
But I heard him exclaim, as he hid from our sight,
“Merry Christmas to all here and good night!"

Alone; Different
Crunched upon the field
Becoming nothing amongst
Mashed mess
Fearing the spring
And its thaw
Evergreen Tree
Upright in the forest
Stand true; proud
Noble; Strong
Roots run deep;
Foundation
But axes
Whack whack whack
Unsinew dreams
Right out of the
Ground
Wolf
Run noble free
Together in the hunt
Teeth tearing at
Feasting upon the stag
Yet bigger pieces others
Grab; lesser
Wolf gets
Smallest Cut
Gift
Sitting there under the tree
Representing the effort
But not what
You want
Trying so hard
To please
Yet not quite
Disappointment
Bottom of the junk
Cupboard
Man
Snowflake tree
Wolf and gift
Life is cold
Death is swift
Work is hard
Days grow dark
Caught off guard
Silenced bark;
Dying Sun
Already begun

To Vyn:
Brown paws stepped through the soft, freshly-fallen snow, carrying one of the few animals who braved the weather through the forest. It had been snowing throughout the entire day without stop. It was only a light snowfall, but still. The weather really wasn't that bad, or at least not for the canine, whose moderately thick brown-and-white pelt protected her from the cold. She had just gotten to this forest a day ago, and, since it was so unfamiliar to her, had decided to go exploring while nearly all other animals were either hiding or sleeping. It was safest that way, and Vyn'tara wasn't exactly a fan of confrontation. She was an understanding creature, but she was still a bit shy.
Vyn yawned as she wandered. Sure, this was the best time for exploration, but it was late. She wanted to sleep, but there was still so much she could see before the night ended. At least, she hoped there was more to see. So far, it's all just been snow-covered trees and rocks. No tracks, no possible hiding places, no other life, nothing. It was just her and the snow. She would've at least liked some more colour, but everything had been covered by a white blanket. At least she stood out a bit, though. She couldn't see herself moving through the land, but her brown pelt would stand out against the constant whiteness to anyone watching her. Hopefully if someone was watching her, it was just out of curiosity and not anything else, though.
She sighed and sat down. Everything here was so.. bland. No colour and no life besides her own, just snow and trees. It was probably much different during the day, and even moreso in the warmer months, but now? It was boring. Even more boring was that she still hadn't found a home for herself. She just kept wandering, hoping that one day she'd find something. There hasn't been anything yet, though, whether it be a pack she could join or just a nice place to settle down and possibly find a mate. She was already two years old.. it couldn't take that much longer, could it? Perhaps there was some pack deeper in the forest that would accept her.
Vyn shook her head. Dwelling on these things would do her no good. If she wanted to change her life, she'd have to go out there and change it herself instead of just thinking about it. Standing up, the female started to walk away before something caught her eye. Something strange, and something very different from everything else around her. Possibly the strangest thing, though, was that it was in the sky and not on the ground or in a tree like she assumed something "different" would be.
She looked up at the sky, and her eyes widened both in shock and in joy. What she saw in the sky was a light, stretching as far as she could see and constantly moving. The light was coloured green, almost like her own eyes except more vibrant, and even a bit of blue. It was the most beautiful thing she had ever seen, and she didn't even know what it was. Only a single word came to her mind as she continued to gaze at the dancing light. Aurora. Maybe that was what the light was called? An aurora? Well, even if it didn't, that was what Vyn would call it.
Vyn didn't even know how long she stood there, mesmerised by the aurora. It could have been hours, or mere minutes, but the lightshow ended far too soon. Eventually, the lights disappeared, and the sky returned to darkness. She frowned, but then smiled again. Even if it was gone, she had seen it, and she loved it. She started walking again, smile still on her face. Maybe there were other amazing things in the forest. Perhaps she had misjudged it, as it certainly wasn't boring anymore.
The aurora definitely had an effect on Vyn, and a good one at that. She felt hope, hope that she would finally find some sort of home. Perhaps she could find others in this land, other canines that she could befriend and share her life with. Maybe she could even watch the aurora with them, if it ever came back.
No matter what happened though, she was happy.

Re: Secret Santa Gifts.
Mine looked amazing Karm's, so thanks!!
And I made Ely's and colored the wolf/did the entire background for Alex's. Soap actually made the lines for the wolf though and so it was like a collaborative gift. ^^

I wrote Vyn's ^^ Had trouble deciding between having her play with snow or see an aurora.. I think I made the right choice though~

And I made yours, Annessa. Though it may have been a little obvious by my style. ^-^

I think with my style of art, it's bit obvious that I made Silver's.
